Welcome to the LaFayette Public Library!

Located in beautiful Central New York, and also available on the internet, the LaFayette Public Library can help you get started with helpful resources on this page.  Topics range from how to get and use a library card, how to find downloadable audio and e-books, who to contact for reference questions, and more! Links to our online resources are below, and questions are always welcome in person at the information desk.

Getting a library card

All you need to get a new library card is a form of ID with a current picture and address, OR two separate documents showing a current photo and current address.

Frequently used documents include…

  • Current driver’s license
  • Vehicle Registration
  • National Grid or telephone bill
  • Tax receipt
  • Sheriff’s identification
  • School or college identification card
  • Bus pass with address

Patrons ages 13 and up also have the option of beginning an application online (ONLINE APPLICATION). This process will grant a temporary card number to allow access to online library functions and materials requests. To check out items and finish registering, you’ll still need to come into the library with the above documentation and receive a permanent card.

Here’s where the fun really starts! With your library card, you’ll have access to a variety of materials, including books, movies, video games, and much more from any of the 33 public libraries in the Onondaga County Library System!

Most materials have a loan time of 3 weeks, although special materials including DVDs and holiday items may have different loan periods. Your checkout receipt will always indicate the due date of each item, but this information can also be checked on the my account tab of the OCPL website (MY ACCOUNT).

You can also sign up for email, text, or phone call notifications for due and overdue notices, as well as updates on any holds you place!

Renewing Materials

As long as there are no active holds on an item, most books and materials will have two available renewals. Some materials will be automatically renewed by our computer system when they reach the due date, but you can also do it yourself!

During business hours, you’re welcome to come into the library or call us.
​
If we aren’t open, or you’d prefer to request a renewal yourself, get your library card barcode and 4 digit PIN ready, and either call our automated renewal phone line at 315-435-1430, or visit My Account on the OCPL website (MY ACCOUNT).

Placing a hold

Speaking of placing holds, here’s your quick guide! Most items are available for holds, and can be delivered to LaFayette (or a different library) for pickup. If we don’t have the item you’re looking for, this is the perfect option, and holds can be placed over the phone or in person at the library.

Outside of open hours, or for the times when you just want to do it yourself, just browse the OCPL Catalog (CATALOG) until you find the materials you’d like. Then, open up the item page by clicking on the name, and click the little orange “PLACE HOLD” link found on the right side!
